Ladies and gentlemen,

Welcome to the launch of the English-Chinese edition of the 8th edition of the Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary.  I am Adrian Mellor, Managing Director of Oxford University Press’s publishing operations in Asia.  I would like to thank Mr. YU Dianli, President of The Commercial Press, for inviting my colleagues from Oxford University Press to be with you at this prestigious launch event. I am very sorry I cannot be there today.  Our two organisations have created an extremely successful partnership over many, many years and this project is further evidence of the strength of that partnership.

The Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary is the world’s most widely used advanced learner’s dictionary.  By giving the learners exactly the right help and support, this Dictionary has been the first choice for teachers, parents and students all over the world.  It is a flagship title of Oxford University Press, it contributes to our sense of identity, to our brand, and it has been a major contributor to our international history – particularly in China and across Asia.

The new 8th edition embraces a number of new features which are the result of extensive research into learners’ needs. The Oxford iWriter is an application on the accompanying CD-ROM.  It is an interactive tutor to help students plan, write and review their written work – addressing directly key elements of feedback received from learners of English. The OALD 8th edition is the only learner’s dictionary to offer targeted help with writing in such a practical and interactive way.

This summer, we are delighted to see the publication of the English-Chinese edition of OALD8.  This bilingual edition is the result of years of hard work between Oxford University Press and The Commercial Press. This edition makes English more accessible for Chinese speakers and helps fulfill the mission of the Press and the University of Oxford.

2014 marks the 35th year of co-publishing between Oxford University Press and The Commercial Press. This new co-published title will create more shared success and will, most importantly, increase the number of learners we reach in China. I look forward to celebrating that success with The Commercial Press in the future. Thank you.

    大家好，欢迎来到《牛津高阶英汉双解词典》第8版的发布会。我是牛津大学出版社亚洲教育部总裁Adrian Mellor。我非常感谢商务印书馆总经理于殿利先生的邀请，使牛津的同事有幸出席这一次意义重大的新书发布会。很遗憾我不能亲身到场。牛津和商务两家出版社有长久而良好的合作，取得了非常大的成功。今天这本新书的面世表明双方的合作又迈出了坚实的一步。

    《牛津高阶英语词典》是全世界最多人使用的高阶学习词典。它的内容和设计切合学习者的需要，长久以来是世界各地众多老师、家长和学生的首选英语工具书。这本词典是牛津大学出版社的王牌产品，它的成功令牛津人倍感自豪，提升了牛津品牌的价值，深化了牛津的国际合作，在中国和其他亚洲国家尤其如此。

    《牛津高阶》第8版有很多新特点，这是经过对学习者的需要进行大量研究后特别设计的。针对大部分学生英语写作能力薄弱这一问题，《牛津高阶》第8版特别推出了iWriter写作程序，预装在随书附送的光盘中，以互动的方式帮助学生构思、撰写和检查自己的文章。用实用、互动的方式，有针对性地提供写作指导，这方面《牛津高阶》第8版在学习型词典中是独一无二的。

    我们很高兴看到，今年夏天《牛津高阶》第8版的英汉双解版出版了。这部英汉版是牛津大学出版社和商务印书馆多年努力的成果。加了汉语译文的《牛津高阶》更方便中国读者理解和使用，有助于实现牛津大学出版社与牛津大学的使命——促进学习，弘扬文化。

    今年是牛津大学出版社和商务印书馆开启合作的35周年，两家出版社多年的合作取得了很好的成绩。这一新的合作项目可望给我们双方带来更大的成功，最重要的是，将使牛津赢得更多的中国读者。我期待在不久的将来牛津和商务共同祝贺这一成功。
